Syrian National Day 17th of April

Damascus the capital of Arab Culture 2008

They told her “You are so old “Yet she felt so young
Independence not so long ago had opened the gates of freedom to her.
In her joy she identified freedom with her birth. Set free in this new morning like a bird from a cage she thought she would hence forward only look ahead and now they were demanding that she looked back again. Busy with her present….
Concerned of her future. Syria for a while forgot the past
But tourism is obliging her to list all her palaces and her temples her churches and mosques and her fortresses.
In Salzburg its Mozart they come to see…
In Strasburg its Shakespeare...
In Greece people come to see The Cradle of Hellnium…
But in Syria one can literally learn the History of the World!
All the Gods have lived in our skies and all the great civilizations of The Mediterranean Basin have flourished in our soil.
The day when her visitors spoke of the mists in their home countries
Syria learned the importance of her sunshine.
